Signs you need a filling:
-
Persistent toothache or sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods
-
Visible holes or pits in the teeth
-
Discomfort when biting down or chewing
-
Rough or jagged edges on a tooth
-
Dark spots or discoloration on the tooth surface
-
Pain or sensitivity upon consuming acidic foods or beverages

The steps of creating a filling:
The first step of a filling procedure involves numbing the area with a local anaesthetic administered through injection. Once numbness is achieved, the dentist uses a drill to remove damaged tooth areas and thoroughly cleans the cavity to eliminate bacteria and debris.
Subsequently, the dentist fills the cavity with the chosen material in layers, hardening each layer with a special light before applying the next. After filling, the dentist shapes the tooth, removes excess material, and polishes it for a smooth finish.

What materials are our filling made of?
Our most commonly used materials for fillings are silver amalgam and composite, also known as white fillings. Silver amalgam, composed of silver, copper, tin, and zinc, is renowned for its strength and durability, making it ideal for filling molars due to its ability to withstand chewing pressure. On the other hand, composite fillings, while not white, are tooth-coloured, making them suitable for front teeth to maintain a seamless smile appearance.
